Allowing me to completely max my server cpu with kernel builds and encoding simultaneously all while STILL gaming in a vfio virtual machine as if nothing was happening. Without MuQSS I never would have even considered vfio. The forks are sadly just not as good as you mentioned. I think it's still the best scheduler for most people that use their system interactively. And IMO, it's very easy to underestimate the impact of your scheduler, but _a lot_ of people use it today. Maybe not directly through downloads on your site or community participation on your blog, but at least through Liquorix, Zen Kernel, and other custom kernels.

As for porting, I'll see how far I can take MuQSS on Liquorix / Zen Kernel. I'm no C expert or kernel developer, but I'd say I have about 6-9 more months of runway before I need serious help from someone who's a more competent maintainer than I am. But I'm not too worried, it looks like I'm not the only one porting and we've already received fixes in Zen Kernel from community contributions, like here: https://github.com/ckolivas/linux/pull/24

Not to mention, improvements to MuQSS' RQ sharing and core selection are work in progress to better support Ryzen, so MuQSS may be able to somewhat withstand the changes in CPU topology as the years go by: https://github.com/ckolivas/linux/pull/24

Maybe by the time you revisit kernel development, you'll find that we're all still here! The need for MuQSS won't go away, but you also don't need to stress over it. I think it's the community's turn to take a proper stab at maintaining your patch set, no one should need to work on code they no longer have interest in for the rest of their life.

Here's to another decade of great CPU scheduling!

damentzhttps://liquorix.netnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6469704299235308349.post-15899602319206148742021-09-01T01:02:21.248+10:002021-09-01T01:02:21.248+10:00Best of luck to you Con. However, I won't do it as a separate fork, I would like to work with you and help porting MuQSS to future kernel versions under your instructions and your directions (as a manpower support).

You inspired me on kernel CPU scheduler hacking.
